From Darkness to Light: The Inspiring Story of Rekha Jhingan's Journey in Drug Rehabilitation

Rekha Jhingan, born on October 1st, 1960, is a social activist who has been working tirelessly for the past 16 years to promote drug de-addiction, women empowerment, and provide aid for street children and mentally ill homeless individuals. She is the founder of the NGO, SAHAJ SAMBHAV, established in the year 2006 with a goal of creating a drug-free society.

Life can present us with various challenges, and for some, those challenges become an opportunity to make a difference. Such is the story of Rekha Jhingan who refused to give up in the face of adversity and emerged victorious against all odds.

Her husband, Vinod, was a national level 100m sprinter, and life seemed to be going smoothly until she discovered that he had become a drug addict. Witnessing the devastating impact of addiction, she decided to take up the challenge of helping those who were struggling with the same affliction. With her experience in dealing with addiction, she established an NGO called "SAHAJ SAMBHAV," which is entirely self-supported.


Since its inception, the center has helped over 2400 individuals overcome their addiction and reintegrate into mainstream society. In addition to drug de-addiction, Rekha Jhingan has also extended her services to female sex workers who had become drug users.

Her work has been recognized with numerous state, national, and international awards, totaling approximately 38 including award from Delhi YAMC, Empowering youth, 2019, Medeor Hospital facilitation, award from UMA Sanjeevani Hospital, Samta Award, Lioness club, Award from Force in Feb 2020 at Hyderabad, Award from Durga Saptashati Foundation  to name a few. 

Through her dedication and hard work, she has made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and families affected by drug addiction. She continues to inspire others with her unwavering determination to make a difference, proving that even the darkest of times can be turned into opportunities for growth and change.
